Earlwood started is suburban life as a logging camp as far back as 1829. Earlwood was discovered by the Puopolp family in 1800 who turned it into farming land, by 1879 Earlwood became known as Parkestown. The name Parkestown later changed to Forest Hill, then in 1918 it became Earlwood. Earlwood is governed by the Canterbury Council, and is neighboured by Hurlstone Parl and Dulwich Hill.
